The Role of Integrity in Criminal Justice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Role of Integrity in Criminal Justice - Essay Example Most people will never be involved directly or indirectly with district attorneys, judges or probation officers. Police officers are therefore the â€Å"face† of the criminal justice system for most people. Integrity in their actions is necessary so that the credibility of the criminal justice system in America can be maintained (Klockars, 2006). Corruption, cronyism and a lack of integrity plague police forces around the world. In some countries, the last person you want to interact with is a police officer because any interaction will include threats of imprisonment or the solicitation of bribes. Police officers are charged to do the right thing according to duty. Everyone working in a professional capacity within the criminal justice system needs to uphold their duty in an ethical manner, but police officers have a special responsibility to do this. The enforcement of laws needs to happen in a manner that is fair and unbiased. Any lapse in integrity makes this impossible. A breach in integrity creates an inherently unjust situation. Police officers are often forced to make difficult decisions. Acting with integrity is a sure guide when the time comes for making hard choices. A lack of integrity for a police officer can be manifest in many ways. One way is through a biased application or enforcement of the law. Holding different groups within the community more accountable for breaking laws than other groups is unethical and lacks integrity. These divisions can be made along the lines of race, gender, sexual orientation, income level and age. Police officers need to keep in mind that proper enforcement of the law can not be dictated by membership in a certain group. When laws are enforced this way, integrity is lacking. Another profound breach of integrity police officers may be involved in is through the taking of bribes or hush money. While this is the norm in some

Setting out the athletics running track and marathon route together Essay

Setting out the athletics running track and marathon route together with measurement of the field events suitable for international competition - Essay Example A running following is assembled around the "standard line" – a hypothetical line that is placed 20cm from the inward path in every path going in the running bearing. The 400-meter length for a track oval is focused around the measuring line. Right slant, angularity and smoothness are fundamental for legitimate running track development. A track must comply with a high set of tolerances, for example, 1/10% greatest descending slant in the running heading. Anything is surpassing the most extreme permissible incline wont permit players to break records on the track. Building games offices is carried out utilizing unrivaled science as part of the request to dependably have legitimate slant, angularity and smoothness with the goal that competitors can perform their best. Security is a necessity which is divulged by building and introducing laser-controlled exactness surfaces that adjust to the largest amounts of tolerance, minimizing hard, delicate and uneven ranges. Precise tolerances are obliged to be qualified for setting sports records. Best tolerances are given to meet the tightest prerequisites in the business. As most general foremen are value persuaded and contract organizations that are sufficiently "great," they are not ready to convey this level of accuracy; most games offices are not fabricated to the insignificant tolerances holders ought to anticipate. Utilization of various bits of state-of-the-workmanship laser-controlled supplies – including numerous laser sorts is utilized to accomplish the most abnormal amount of exactness and tolerance in the business and specialty of running track and marathon development. Persistently, an examination is executed focused around the best innovation, gear, and philosophies. The predominating laser accuracy conveys close flawless evaluating and waste, expanding the execution, life span, and security of the games office. Without uniform

Impact Of Celebrity Endorsement On Consumer Purchase Intention Marketing Essay

Impact Of Celebrity Endorsement On Consumer Purchase Intention Marketing Essay Celebrity endorsement has become a modern day staple of advertisement strategies, used to create distinctive competencies in increasingly competitive industries. This is especially the case with the telecom sector of Pakistan, which is one of the countrys most profitable industries and thus the level of competition is fierce and companies often resort to celebrity endorsement to impact consumer purchase intention. This research study aims to study the nature of the relationship between celebrity endorsement variables and purchase intention. The use of previous studies in this field has created a common set of variables that combine to form the celebrity endorsement factor and as such these variables have been extracted from the literature review. The identified variables are: image-fit, brand recognition, likeability, trustworthiness and attractiveness. The research primarily used a quantitative method for analysis as the author wanted the results to be less subject to the authors own intuition and thus his own bias. This analysis was obtained from questionnaires and formed the basis of the data used to regress the variables with each other. Overall, the regression and cross tabulation results concluded that all five variables had a significant impact on purchase intention with brand recognition and trustworthiness being given the highest value by consumers in terms of affecting their purchase intention. Acknowledgements I would like to express my gratitude to all those who helped me during the whole of my project. I gratefully acknowledge the help of my supervisor, Professor Fareedy who has offered me invaluable advice throughout the project. He has spent time and energy to aid in the completion of this project and none of this would have been possible without his patient instructions, insightful criticisms and expert guidance. I would also acknowledge the enormous support and advice received from my dear friend, Ammar Hameed, without whom this thesis would not have been of the quality that it is now. Table of Contents Chapter I: Overview Introduction Advertisement plays a vital role in the economy; it is the foundation upon which this fast paced world learns whats new and available. To sell a product in the competitive global market has become a challenging task. Homogenous products and brands make it difficult to choose from. Minor tweaks in design and voila a new product is ready for the shelves. However advertisement is major difference between the brands and their products and services. In order to survive in this trade, companies require sales to increase which would establish a label for the company seemingly creates a sense of belonging between the consumer and the product. This sense of belonging is awakened in the hearts of the purchasers by going along with celebrity endorsements where consumers can relate to their favorite celebrity that leads on to influencing demand for that brands product or service. When relating to celebrities, it is vital that companies choose celebrities who are up in the popular rating hence strengthening the scope of accomplishment in gaining market share for the particular brand, product or a service. It can be said that the popularity and the association of the celebrity with the brand has a direct relationship. As the popularity level goes up, so does the image of the brand in question. The basic idea of the endorsement is quite simple. General consensus is that people like celebrities, if those celebrities say that they like a product or a service naturally people will like what they like. It is as if by magic celebrities transfer their popularity from themselves to the products. Endorsement also might symbolize quality or any other related virtue. In order to sell a product we need to advertise and what could be better than to advertise on the shoulders of already successful sales i.e. celebrities. It is thus that this research project seeks to understand the how celebrities, and specifically their attributes affect, both positively and negatively, the purchase intention of the consumers and hence the title: Impact of celebrity endorsers attributes on consumer purchase intention Background The history of celebrity endorsement of products dates back to the 1760s. Josiah Wedgwood, the founder of the Wedgwood brand of pottery and chinaware, also called the father of the modern brand ; he used royal endorsements with regard to his brand to create a sense of aura and position the brand in such a way as to exceed its value in comparison to the value created by the product and services offered. The cigarette industry signed on entertainment personalities and used them in its ads in 1905. Since radio became commercial in the late 20s and the invention of TV screens in the 40s, celebrities have done commercials. Western culture has always flocked to the notion of a celebrity driven culture; whereby celebrities dictate the trends of the post-modern materialistic culture. Endorsements help the companies to gain strength in the market in order to be part of the consumers purchase basket. By doing so, sunrise companies prosper and develop into bug giants. Celebrities have a growing interest of the consumer population hence that image and aura is used in relation to a brand to influence the purchase decisions of people all around. This mechanism allows for change in tastes and interests with regard to the celebrity endorsement. Aristotle once said, Any brand can get a celebrity that is easy; but getting a celebrity consistent with the right brand to the right degree at the right time for the right purpose and in the right way; that is not easy. Significance of the Study The usage of famous ambassadors or celebrities in the department of marketing intervention and communications is growing since the late 1970s and has exalted to a percentage of nearly 25% at the end of the 1990s. Some researches show a positive direct economic effect of these famous endorsements despite they are very expensive. It ought to be of greath worth to the companies to know what product/brand goes with which celebrity in light of the expected outcome. Celebrity endorsements amount to millions of dollars in investments and the investment has to be on the mark to produce fruitful results. However to ensure soundness of the investment, appropriate time and money is alloted to the marketing department to match the product with the celebrity keeping in view the popularity ranking of the celebrity in question with forecasted predictions of his/her future public stance. This research measures the Impact of celebrity endorsers attributes on consumer purchase intention to keep a chec k on the consumers behavior patterns in relation to the associated celebrity endorsement. However, Although, marketing strategies if well directed could improve the message getting across thus creating a suitable link between the brand and the celebrity. In light of this, the planning process of the message and the brand equity management should cater to the celebrity appropriately. The research itself would focus on Lowe Raufs client, Nestle and how celebrity endorsements affect consumer purchase behavior and brand equity for milk. The milk industry in Pakistan is an ever growing industry with multiple competitors and multiple ad agencies vying to create effective communication channels for these brands. Milkpak for the first time in Pakistan is not the market leader and as such the use of celebrity endorsement is an effective way of readdressing that balance. Time Frame The time frame for this research project is 5 months, starting from August and ending in December. Research Proposal Submission (August 2012) Revisions to Proposal (1st September 2012) Literature Review (1st September 2012) Hypothesis Generation (1st September 2012) Theoretical Framework (1st September 2012) Methodology (1st September 2012) Data Collection (22nd September 2012) Data Compilation (6th October 2012) Data Analysis (13th October 2012) Results and Findings (20th October 2012) Final Submission (3rd November 30th 2012) Resources Zakria Fawad (Account Manager, Nestle) served as the primary source of reference as he handles the Nestle and Stylo accounts within the firm. Prior case studies generated by Lowe and Rauf also served to help gather further information of the research topic and as such was a useful resource. The GM, Anwar Kabir, was the secondary source of information, providing further insight as to the workings of the firm at a macro level. Chapter II: Lowe Rauf Lowe Rauf Lowe Rauf, Pakistan is an affiliate of Lowe and Partners international, which itself is a unit of Interpublic Group, one of the four biggest advertisement companies in the world. Situated in Karachi, Lowe Rauf firsts established itself in Pakistan in 1951 as an in-house agency of Unilever and gradually morphed into an independent company after a decade. This new independent company was called R-Lintas and was headed by Mr. Rauf who saw it grow and morph into one of the key players in Pakistans advertising industry. In the mid 90s, R-Lintas opened its doors to the Lahore market as well and has been thriving ever since in the city, creating many memorable campagins for some of the largest players in the industry, including but not limited to: Lux, Dalda, Nestle, Unilever Foods, Unilever Non Foods. In 2003, R-Lintas was taken over by Lowe and Partners International and was changed to Lowe Rauf Pakistan ever since with a new philosophy that focuses on fusing local ideas into everyday products that is known in its offices as, Populist Creativity. The Karachi office has eight different departments which include: Account Service, Account Planning, Creative, Finance, Media Buying, Production, Human Resource and Research. The Lahore office shares these resources for some functions, while running independently for others and thus it has smaller set of departments. It has a separate, Account Service, Creative, Media Buying and Production department, while the rest are shared with the Karachi office. Organizational Chart [Source: Lowe Rauf, Pakistan (2012). Organizational Structure, People Procedures Manual, pp. 3] Functional Departments Account Service Department: This department acts as a liaison between the agency and the client. It is responsible for maintaining the client portfolio along with working with the creative department and the client to ensure that information flows smoothly and to maintain a good working relationship with the client so that future work can also be brought in. The account services department, typically the account executive works to create a creative brief, which forms as the basis upon which the creative department comes up with ideas. Account Planning Department: The role of the account planning department is fundamentally to formulate a strategy that will drive all campaign objectives forward in a manner that is consistent with the agencys goals as well as the clients needs and the consumer perception of the brand in question. It is thus the most important department in the agency. Account planners frequently work with the research department because it is based on the information provided by the research team that they form their strategy and plans. Creative Department: The creative department is responsible for coming up with ideas for all campaigns. They use the creative brief provided by the account service department and use that to create print and TVC advertisements. The concepts created by this department are related back to the account service department which shows them to the client for approval. Often creative need to come up with multiple concepts because clients can be finicky and choosy. Media Production Department: The media production department is responsible for producing the TVC or print idea that the creative department has come up with. Once the final idea for the advertisement has been approved by the client, this department works with the creative department to create the advertisement so that a final form can be aired on television or published in newspapers, magazines etc. Media Buying Department: The media buyers use their sources and contacts to purchase advertising space wherever required at the cheapest rate possible. It is thus important to have a very low turnover rate within this department as one of the major ways through which lower rates are gained are through the media buyers contacts. These people also need to be aware of costs with regards to different locations, timings special occasions so that they can act upon it quickly, before the competition. Human Resource Department: The Human Resource Department, like any HR dept. at any organization is responsible for the planning and managing of personnel within the organization. This department mostly uses internet and websites to satisfy personnel needs, however sometimes newspaper advertisements might also be used. Market Research Department: The market research department is constantly in contact with consumers of different clients to understand how, when and why are consumer perceptions changing with regards to new campaigns and changes to brand. They also track brand health and measure equity if the client desires. Finance Department: Like with any other organization, the finance department controls all costs and cash associated with the firm at all levels. Market Strategy and USP Lowe Rauf follow a differentiation strategy in that their services are slightly expensive than most of the competition, however they make up for it by providing efficient services, that are uniquely creative as well as the fact that they are one of the fastest agencies in terms of creating campaigns. That is their major differentiating factor as well as the fact that they are highly experienced in FMCG goods and have a very successful portfolio with Surf Excel, Walls, Nestle, etc. USP: Their unique selling proposition is the fact that they can create uniquely creative advertisement campaigns within 10 days. Financial Statements, People, Procedures Manual, pp. 19] Chapter III: Industry Competitors Local Industry Pakistans media network has gained new benchmarks as compared to yesteryears. Once being an agriculturally dominated, Pakistan has developed in this aspect. Cable and television being accessible to wherever there is electricity and road side billboards being the hub of advertisement. Be it radio, television, billboards or internet, advertisement market of Pakistan has expanded its outreach whereby it is now creating alliance with celebrities from overseas and setting aside endorsements as per the requirement of the current times. This opportunity of hiring non- Pakistani celebrities for brand image reaches new popularity levels that were previously held by Pakistani entertainers. Pakistan is increasingly following in the footsteps of the Western world by adopting a celebrity driven culture; where latest trends, fashions and ideas are modeled after various celebrities. History is witness to the fact that investments in celebrity endorsements in Pakistan have increased rapidly in the l ast decade or so hence increasing the quality of competition as well promoting innovation in marketing strategies as well as product development. This chain of events have allowed Pakistan to grow in the positive direction hence creating awareness and increasing knowledge of the general public by means of massive advertisement projects in relation to gaining total strength of the consumer population. Huge investments require similar increases in revenue. Brand image once embossed within the consumers then the companies get their safe haven until they reap the fruit of their own mistakes. Thus companies are increasingly using celebrities to endorse their brands by either publicly using their product or appearing in advertisements for said products. The aim is to increase sales of the product by getting consumers to change their purchase behavior and buying more of the product (either by consuming it in greater quantity or buying more of the product). However celebrity endorsement does not automatically guarantee greater success, nor is the effectiveness same for every brand of a particular celebrity. Thus it becomes important for organizations to understand how celebrity endorsement affects their brand. The purpose of this thesis is to study the impact that celebrity endorsement has on a brand as well as the factors that determine the effectiveness of the endorsement for the brand in order to maintain successful brand recognition. Competitor Analysis The local Pakistani advertising industry is brimming with a multitude of advertising agencies and each day it seems a new one is opening up around the corner. However, most of the top agencies in Pakistan have been around for decades and have a stable client base with which they operate and conduct their business with. Orient McCann: McCann-Erickson is an affiliate of the Interpublic Group of Companies and is a multinational advertising agency with some of the largest and lucrative clients in the world. McCann Erickson combined with a local corporation, Orient in 1996 to form Orient McCann in Pakistan. It soon established itself as one of the best agencies in Pakistan and currently has the highest market share with major clients as Habib Bank, KFC and LOreal. Synergy Advertising: Synergy Advertising has made a name for itself in recent years by winning the award for the best print advertisements in Pakistan. It has also gained strides by roping in Moiblink as its client along with Engro Polymer and NBP. Synergy is the second largest advertising service in Pakistan today. JWT: JWT, another international company with significant backing has been in the industry for over 20 years and has some of the most loyal client base in the industry. JWT prides itself on providing discounts and other deals to its clients, which are unmatched in the industry. Its major clients include Bank Alfalah and Asiatic Bank. Interflow: Interflow was established in Pakistan in 1979 and was initially slow to get off the ground. However over the last 10 years it has consistently performed well and with international clients such as Samsung and LG, it continues to build its reputation in the market. Manhattan International: Manhattan International is one of the few advertising agencies, certainly the only recognizable agency in Pakistan that is actively affiliated with its international office. Most other agencies, including Lowe Rauf are independent organizations with the same set of rules and principles; however Manhattans strongest point is that it can take the help of its international counterparts for campaigns and that is why they are strong in Pakistan, even though they have been here for a very short duration. Their biggest client at the moment is PIA. Pak Media Com: Pak Media Coms claim to fame has been one intensely popular campaign that has made them famous on the circuit. That campaign is the recent Ufone advertisements which have taken the industry by storm. Deemed to be the most recognizable and most appreciated advertisements amongst teenagers and young adults, these advertisements have put Pak Media Com on the map. Midas: Midas has started relatively recently in Pakistan and has been able to get the Indus Motor Company as their clients, along with a recent contract with Samsung post 2012, once their partnership with Interflow expires. This has made them a prominent player in Pakistans increasingly competitive advertising landscape. Evernew Entertainment: Evernew Entertainment has been around for over 20 years but has slowly seen a decline in its client base with the emergence of new players in the industry. It still has a few significant clients, such as Dawlance, which make them a worthy competition even now. Mindshare Pakistan: Just like Evernew, Mindshare has also been in operation for a long time but has a dwindling client base, however with Nokia still in their portfolio, they are deemed significant enough by the other agencies. Argus Advertising: Argus Advertising is not a large firm (as compared to the others on this list) but they have a very large, very profitable client in Sony. Although their client base is limited, the presence of Sony in their portfolio has been the envy of many Pakistani advertising agencies. Competitor Form Sheet [Source: Lowe Rauf, Pakistan (2012). Hence there are innumerable studies that have dedicated themselves to understanding the factors that lead to an increase in marketing effectiveness and leading to the ultimate aim of greater purchases and greater brand equity. Celebrity endorsement is one such factor that impacts purchase behavior and as such there have been studies that have been dedicated to not only studying the impact of this variable but also how it can be utilized to increase marketing effectiveness as well as the precautions that must be taken into account. The following reviews consist of studies relevant to this study. Celebrity Endorsement Hidden Factors to Success T

Using Technology in Sports :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers

Using Technology in Sports The ball comes speeding over the net and slams down onto the face of the court landing just beyond the base line, the line running along the back of the court. I had called her winning point... "out." As I turned towards her, I could see the anger building in her eyes. We walked towards each other, and with only the net separating us, she began to confront me. She argued that, as she saw it, the ball was obviously in and that we should replay the point. I wanted this game as much as she did and we were both standing strong. I finally decided that there was no use in fighting. We had to resolve this argument between ourselves because there were no line judges to decide for us. We decided to replay the point and she won. I tried to convince myself that there would be times when a call would be questionable and that I should try not to point fingers. I still went home discouraged that night because I knew that the call I had made was fair. The next day I sleepily drifted in and out of my Ethics lecture, although, the teacher was able to catch my attention by an interesting question that he presented. What is morally correct? This got my mind going. I was bothered by the match the previous day and I began to question myself about my call. Was it morally correct or was I being partial to my own success? I reflected on that final call that I had made, the point that won the game. I was positive that I had made a fair call but a little hint of doubt kept ringing in my head. What if I had made a bad call? What if I saw the ball differently than everyone else? Questions like these continued to haunt me throughout the hour. One of my close friends, Sarah, noticed that something was bothering me. She asked me what was wrong, and I told her that I was upset about last night's match and was wishing that there was a way to tell for sure if the ball had been in or out. As soon as I had finished, an excited look washed over her fac e. Being a track star, she proceeded to tell me about a new technology that was being used for runners.

Evaluate how a selected business uses e-business Essay

Evaluate how successful a selected business organisation has been in preparing for the growing use of e-business. In this report the business I have chosen to evaluate is Tesco’s. Tesco’s is one of the largest supermarket stores around the world; it has 330,000 staff working in 3,146 stores, there are stores located in China, Turkey and Japan. Research shows that they have stores in 9 other different countries and 27 million people outside of the UK own their own club card to receive offers and discounts from Tesco’s. They sell a range of different products to suit customer’s needs. The products range from food and groceries, their own clothing brand F&F, their own mobile phone network, and also have personal banking. Tesco’s are all about making their customers happy by offering them services which can be very useful, including bank loans. There slogan ‘Every little helps’ is not just a slogan but is one of their aims, they want to mak e sure all products that they sell are at a reasonable price to meet customer’s needs. Tesco’s was originally set up as a store but opened up an online website to make it easier for customers who are unable to visit the stores, this could be due to working hours. The online website offers all products which are available in stores; they offer a delivery service and a pickup service for customers. There are strategies which Tesco’s have used to develop their E-Business, one being making a 24 hour global presence. Tesco’s online website is 24 hours; because they don’t only sell to customers in the UK they sell to customers around the world. It is important for them to have a 24 hour website for the customers in different time zones to the UK. Having a 24 hour website can benefit both customers and Tesco’s because customers who have all day jobs may not have time to make an order online during the day, having a 24 website can help them because they are then able to purchase products at night. Another strategy that Tesco’s have is; communicating with customers. Tesco’s are able to communicate with customers using the Internet and technology, they can email customers about new products they have and the products that customers have ordered to confirm their delivery. Tesco’s also use E-Marketing remixes to help develop their E-Business. E-Marketing is how the website looks in order to sell your products and services, to make it easier for customers to buy products online Tesco’s have made the website easy for all people to use. They have a previous buy items page for customers when they sign in so they  can see what they brought on their last delivery to make it easier and faster to choose what to buy. To keep up with trends and technology Tesco’s change the design of their website a couple of times a year, this is to ensure that the website always stays easy for customers to use because technology is changing constantly Tesco’s need to keep up. They have made a mobile phone website so customers are able t o buy products online using their mobile where ever they are. In order to maintain a business effectively it needs to be successful, Tesco’s have been one of the most successful companies’ worldwide selling products and opening stores in 12 different countries. Research shows that Tesco’s profits are getting higher and higher as they are developing into their new E-Business. There are many ways to now access Tesco’s which is making it easier for customers to buy from them. The Daily Mail states that Tesco’s are earning a  £105 profit each second. Other research shows that sales for Tesco’s have made it to  £10 million per week for Tesco’s online. This shows that Tesco’s is running a very effective and successful business as their profits are getting higher each year.

6 steps toward a cautious career change

6 steps toward a cautious career change A life where you dread what you do every day isn’t sustainable. If you’re absolutely miserable, it’s clear you need a change- maybe even a total career overhaul. What isn’t clear is how to transfer all the hard work you’ve put into building this one career into the start of a new one. There are ways to make a big change without having to give up all the gains you’ve made so far. Let’s explore some key steps you can take.1. Define your ultimate goals.First and foremost, take a big step back and ask yourself some tough questions. What do you want out of a career, and why aren’t you getting it in your current career? Look at your life from higher up to map out the career and work life you hope to attain. Taking time to assess the situation will help you make the right choices and not rush into anything too fast.2. Pick an ideal moment.A career change is a stressful move, no matter how happy it makes you. Even if you’ve done your homework and can make the transition as smooth as possible, your life will be turned upside-down for a while. Choose a time to explore career change when everything else in your life (your family and friends, your home life, etc.) is stable and can fly on autopilot as you navigate the bumpy seas of your transition. Don’t attempt any massive job changes when you’re about to go through a massive life change, as well!3. Ask people who have found success.Seek advice from people further up the food chain who have made big career leaps. They can give real-life examples of how to handle specific situations. Ideally, you can find a mentor in the field to ask about steps for your particular industry. You’ll want to gain a full understanding of the territory you’re branching into in order to make smart, calculated moves.4. Think big, act small.Once you’re sure you have an ideal scenario of where you want to eventually end up, go  for it. Just break th at massive goal down into smaller benchmarks- goals that you can meet in the shorter term. Then put your blinders on and focus on one task at a time until you start generating the momentum to carry yourself closer to your desired endpoint.5. Test the waters. If you’re not 100% sure of what you want, don’t just leap headfirst into a new career- particularly one that will involve a major lifestyle change. Try to gain some casual experience in the field or position before you commit. The last thing you want to do is end up in a new career and hate it! Try volunteering or taking on some freelance work until you see how well you fit.6. Remain humble throughout the process. You’re making a move into a territory you can’t know as intimately as the one you’ve been in- no matter how well-respected and successful you are currently. You’ll have to start a few notches down and prove yourself. Embrace new challenges with eagerness and gratitude, and youâ⠂¬â„¢ll be fine.

Employment Scenario in India Essays

Employment Scenario in India Essays Employment Scenario in India Essay Employment Scenario in India Essay Employment has emerged as an important subject in the development agenda of most national governments and several international organisations over the past two decades. In recent years, the processes of globalisation have also resulted in certain trends in labour markets in both the developed and developing countries. in the developing countries, fears have been expressed of displacement of workers in the hither to protected sectors as a result of international competition. Current scenario of India: As a belong to India, I would like to emphasize on the current education and employment scenario in India. In India, The educational system follows 12 years of schooling and then a 3-4 years of graduation course, and 2 years of post graduation course. India  has a total  of 253 universities and 12,732 colleges right now. Growth rate of employment is 3. 29% in 2009. Highest rate of Employment is observed in agriculture , fishing and forestry- 296. 62 million. The Lowest rate of employment is in Electricity, Gas and water supply – 1. 5 million. The country is having a population of 1. 2 billion while the total employment is 529. 87 million. It indicates that major portion of the youth remain unemployed. Major employment challenges in India: 1. Population: India  is the  second most populous  country in the world, with over 1. 18 billion people (estimate for April, 2010), more than a sixth of the worlds population. More than this every year about 5 million people become eligible for securing jobs. But the employment opportunities are much lower than the job seekers. 2. Poverty: In India, Poverty often forces households to withdraw children from schools for reasons of both direct and opportunity costs. In addition, schools and the style of instruction are not always attractive for the children. In the case of girls, the familial attitude towards educating them continues to be discriminatory. As a result, Drop-out rates are high: at 40 per cent in the primary, 50 per cent in the middle and 66 per cent in the secondary stages of schooling for boys and 42 per cent, 58 per cent and 72 per cent at the three levels, for girls In rural families. 42 per  cent of children said they wanted to be graduates and just 24 per  cent wished to go in for a post-graduate  degree. Even the choice of subject changed according to the occupation of parentschildren of the salaried class were more likely to study engineering or medicine. 3. Employability: A part of the problem of employment has always been the result of a mismatch between qualitative aspects of the supply and demand of labour: demand has remained unfulfilled due to non-availability of workers with requisite skills and workers have remained unemployed or underemployed as they have no skills or their skills have no demand. This mismatch seems to have grown in recent years due to fast changes in production technologies and structures to which the skill supply mechanisms and institutions have not been quick enough to respond. 4. Rate of Literacy: 39 per cent of the Indian workforce in the 15 years and above age group is illiterate; another 23 per cent have studied only up to the primary level. Only 22 per cent have secondary and higher level of education. 5. No of colleges: India  has a total  of 253 universities and 12,732 colleges right now. If we take the total  population in the relevant age group and divide this by the number of colleges/universities, then it shows that, at the all-India level, each university will have to cater for around 250,000-300,000 studentswhile thats about the size of Delhi University, there arent too many universities of this size in the country, nor are many being planned. 6. Educational Infrastructure: The infrastructure and curriculum of the school and colleges suffer from lack of adequate technologies, Shortage of funds. The curriculum of professional colleges are not updated to met the requirements of the industry. India is having Total engineering colleges more than 3000, when Total number of  Private MBA  colleges  in India is more than 1700. Almost 90% of these  colleges  are unable to provide quality education. Only top 10% college of Engineering and managements are able to provide job to students through Campus selection. 7. Economic depression : sick industries are often close down compelling their employees to become unemployed. 8. Technological advancement : Technological advancement contributes to economic development . But unplanned and uncontrolled growth of technology is causing havoc on job opportunities. The computerization and automation has led to technological unemployment. 9. Industry lockouts: Strikes and lockouts have become inseparable aspect of the industrial world today. Since workers do not get any salary or wages during the strike period they suffer from economic hardships. They become permanently or temporarily unemployed. How to improve the education system: Education system plays a crucial role in the employment scenario. Because it delivers the students who possess the skills and knowledge to participate in the global economy. Following measures should be taken to make the students employable in Public and Private sectors: 1. Increasing No of Schools: As discussed earlier, the existing No of schools are not adequate to provide quality education to the eligible students. So the No. of universities and colleges must be increased. 2. Providing Free education: In primary level, Education in the Govt. Schools should be made free for rural families. Also No of scholarships should be increased for higher education. . Developing Infrastructure: Increase spending substantially on primary and high school education (Both qualitative and quantitative). Increase the salaries of teachers at least at per with university lecturers and put stringent quality control while recruiting the teachers and introduce accountability among them. We must increase substantially the number of primary schools and quality of those a nd improve on physical infrastructures like school buildings, a minimum standard of school laboratory and library, a decent play ground, some internet connected computers in libraries etc. In technical institutions, technical equipments should be used in instructing. 4. Pattern of evaluation: Subsequently the exam patterns should change and put more emphasis on original thinking and problem solving rather than emphasizing database-quiz type format. 5. Improving curriculum: Basic education should be in mother tongue but English also should be compulsory from class 1. Technical education should be made available to students who have completed 8 years of schooling. To cover the lack of skills, a mechanism needs to be set up at different levels - national, regional and local - to continuously assess the emerging skill requirements of the rapidly changing economic and technological scene and reorient the training infrastructure to meet them. Second, it is necessary to develop training systems to meet the skill requirements of the unorganised sector, which is likely to be the main source of new employment opportunities, in highly diverse activities with many common as well as specific skills. 6. Training for competitive exams: In higher educational institutions, students should be prepared to clear the competitive exams. It will make a large No. Of students eligible for various public sector jobs. Conclusion: The first lead in improving the educational system should be taken by the Government. Because though Education in Private Colleges are expensive, they are having a good infrastructure and placement record compared to the Govt. Colleges. Govt. Should take initiative to increase no of schools and colleges with proper facilities, and also improve the curriculum and infrastructure of present education system.

Lawsuits Against the Police Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Lawsuits Against the Police - Essay Example When one looks into the reports of police brutality coming in from different parts of the US, the numbers are simply shocking. Roberts (2007) has reported that â€Å"a Google search for â€Å"police brutality videos† had showed him, â€Å"2,210,000 entries.† Quoting a Human Rights Watch report, Roberts (2007) has also observed that in most cases, â€Å"no disciplinary action and criminal prosecution† took place. This is because of the difficulties involved in proving the unlawful act of the police officer, the reluctance of prosecutors to fight cases against the police with whom they have good â€Å"institutionalized relationships†, and also because of the general sympathetic attitude of the jurors towards the police (Barak, 2007, p.507). The Justice Department of the United States has the powers to sue police departments under the Violent Crime Control Act (1994) for such misconduct (Barak, 2007, p.506). In the last two decades, such prosecutions include d cases against: New Jersey Police Department to limit its reliance on racial profiling in traffic stops; an Ohio police force to reduce its use of excessive force; the Pittsburgh police department for increased oversight and accountability; and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) over the Rampart scandal, where, in August 2000, a federal judge ruled that the government’s antiracketeering statute †¦could be used against the police (Barak, 2007, p.506). Individual citizens who were subjected to police brutality and abuse have also been filing law suits against police (Barak, 2007, p.506). In some of those cases, courts have awarded huge sums of compensation to the complainants. For example, the Detroit police department was found to have â€Å"paid an average of $10 million dollars per year to resolve lawsuits arising from police misconduct† (Barak, 2007, p.506). Between 1994 and 1996, the New York City had paid an amount of $70 million as compensation awarded by courts in police brutality lawsuits (Collins and Human Rights Watch, 1998, p.78). Similarly, the Los Angeles city had to pay $79.2 million during the period, 1991-96 (Collins and Human Rights Watch, 1998, p.78). When a police officer carries out some kind of ethical or criminal violation, the punishment for that will generally come up to â€Å"reprimands or dismissal from the job†, and also in some cases, â€Å"fines, probation, or incarceration in a prison or jail† (Carmen, 2009, p.444). And in case of violations leading to civil liabilities, â€Å"monetary payment for damages and attorney’s fees,† will be the sanctions imposed (Carmen, 2009, p.444). The liabilities for violations for a police officer could be either under the state or the federal law or both (Carmen, 2009, p.446). Under Federal law, the liabilities are addressed by certain provisions under Civil Action for Deprivation of Civil Right, Conspiracy to Interfere with Civil Rights, Equal Rights Under the Law, Criminal Liability for Deprivation of Civil Rights, Criminal Liability for Conspiracy to Deprive a Person of Rights, Violations of Federally Protected Activities, and other Federal agency rules and guidelines (Carmen, 446). The state tort law, â€Å"state penal code provisions†, and â€Å"regular penal code provisions† are the state laws involved (Carmen, 2009,

Critical Article on a Recently Completed Building Coursework

Critical Article on a Recently Completed Building - Coursework Example The tower has a height of three hundred and ten meters above the ground. The building is equipped with forty four lifts to facilitate upward and downward movement of people. Also known as the Shard of Glass, The Shard skyscraper is located near the London bridge station which is located in the suburbs of the Southwark town. Specifically, the Shard is located to the south of London Bridge that is used to cross River Thames from London City. It has eighty seven floors, and it is three hundred and ten meters high above the ground. The building was designed to host several recreational facilities as well as office spaces. Floors four to twenty eight were designed to house offices, floors sixty eight to seventy two were designed for public viewing galleries, floors fifty three to sixty five for apartments, and others to hosts hotels and other recreational facilities. This article is aimed at critiquing the general architecture of the Shard. The building will be analysed in order to find o ut if it has achieved the intended functionality. Its effect on the general public, the environment as well as flora and fauna will be closely studied. Description of the building According to Kant (2007, p. 1) in his book critique of judgement architecture is defined as â€Å"the art of exhibiting concepts of things that are possible only through art, things whose form does not have nature as its determining basis but instead has a chosen purpose, and of doing so in order to carry out that aim and yet also with aesthetic purposiveness. In architecture, the main concern is what use is to be made of the artistic object, and this use is a condition to which the aesthetic ideas are confined† (Harries, 2008). The definition of Kant has manifested in the design of The Shard. The design of the building was based on producing the tallest building in London that that positively contributes to the aesthetics value of London. London views from the summit of The Shard are astonishing. A s one views the landscape of London from the Shard, it is spread out like vast moving tapestry. The views of Olympic Park, Wembley Stadium, and the winding views of Thames River are vividly visible (TripAdvisor, 2013). Like other tall buildings, the Shard had to work both from street level and at a distance. To provide a street frontage, the American Inter – War approach and cornice level was utilized (TripAdvisor, 2013). This made the Shard unnoticeable from the street. The redesigned concourse of London Bridge Station gives the Shard a ready - made podium. This was made possible by the heights at which the railway lines are set. This concourse forms the base onto which The Shard with its fritted - glass canopies rises. The above connoted unique architectural techniques illustrate analytic aesthetics which has been ignored by many architects in their work. Functiolism plays a vital role here in the transformation of the initial â€Å"simple† building into an architect ural work that serves its intended purposes. The specific Design of the Shard has made it an iconic Landmark in London. The building comprises of eleven thousand glass panels which are equivalent to fifty six thousand meters squares of glass. To facilitate movement, the building has three hundred and six flights of stairs and 44 lifts most of which comprises double decker. The building’s floor was designed to cover 31.4 acres. The floors

Global Business - Essay Example A cornerstone of this notion of International human resource management is the creation of linkage or integration between the overall strategic aims of the business and the human resource strategy and implementation. The aviation industry as a whole has faced the most challenging problems and competition in the global business (Thehindubusinessline.com.) Despite new and increasing challenges, the airline industry facilitates economic growth, global trade, and international tourism and continues to restructure, develop and adapt to counter them. Bonaventures art - Christian artists Assignment

Bonaventures art - Christian artists - Assignment Example The essay "Bonaventure’s art - Christian artists" discovers Christian artists and focuses on the art of Bonaventure. Bonaventure strived to have a personal meeting with Francis’ companions; still alive as early as in 1260. Although Bonaventure really sought for the Saint’s companions, it is hard for one to conclude that Bonaventure’s intention was to present a trustworthy figure of Francis the Saint. A school of theology has argued that Bonaventure’s effort was to realize a theological history, that made him an icon of Francis’ background; this was the Bonaventure’s intended paint; â€Å"a stigmatized saint.† Additionally, Bonaventure brings out Francis as the founder of â€Å"a new religious order.† He also presents a conformity image between Francis the Saint and Christ. According to Bonaventure, St.Francis had a visionary experience while praying on top of a mountain in alone. During the experience, St.Francis was impr inted the wounds of Christ at the crucifixion; Christ’s wounds were referred to as the stigmata, while the experience the stigmatization. Consequently, Bonaventure a Franciscan’s leader wrote about St.Francis, and thereby making St.Francis canonical. This piece of work can also be analyzed by dividing it into three sections: foreground, middle-ground, and the background. Every figure, symbolically communicates to the observer. Additionally, the positioning of each figure is an important attribute of the artist. The wall painting and the panel painting reveal similar features.

Adenauers Foreign Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Adenauers Foreign Policy - Essay Example n, anticommunist foreign policy for which Davison & Speier (1957) has expressed their opinion in the following words: "To a generation living with the memories of World War II, into which another German chancellor had plunged the world less than twenty years earlier, Adenauer has been the symbol of sobriety and moderation. His firm adherence to the principles underlying Western civilisation is beyond doubt, and his policies bear no trace of Hitler's nihilism and hybrid". (Davison & Speier, 1957, p. 2) And obviously both Adenauer and Brandt acquire this political characteristic that despite being chancellors of their eras, they only concern about ways to unite the broken Germany, not by aggression but by political diplomacy.Adenauer performed a historic role for confronting various challenging issues just after the Second World War. All his foreign policies lead him towards a single solution i.e., a united Europe and that is what he dreamt about throughout his life. Not only dreamt bu t also implemented his visions in the form of practical solution by developing certain policies, that remained successful in uniting both the East and West of the Germany. The best thing about Adenauer's regime was he did not receive resistance from a large communist minority. However, he received several obstructions on the basis of the opposition he received from the German Social Democratic party. Adenauer's Foreign Policy - German Sovereignty Adenauer felt the need to develop his own foreign policy in the late 1940s when he saw the German policies been threatened by France. At this stage he felt a real need to devise a new set of foreign policies but due to the restriction imposed upon him he was unable to do so. The only option he found open was to secure German sovereignty, and this could only be achieved by integrating FRG (Federal Republic of Germany) to Western Europe. Adenauer recovered Germany by effective foreign and domestic policy thereby standardising the German currency rate in 1948. It was in 1950s when Adenauer succeeded in recognising his new state's entry into Western institutions. In this context the first move he made was the acceptance of the partnership of those nations who at times were Germany's greatest opponents. France was at the top of the list. This was the first step towards establishment of a secure foreign policy that defended German sovereignty. Student in University Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Student in University - Essay Example As scholars say, time is a valuable resource, a distinguishing factor between success and failure. From this assertion, time management is the solution to this ever-lasting problem. Though a common phrase, the manner in which the strategy to manage time is laid dictates the end result. An ordinary behavior in many campuses around the globe is that tutors and professors dispatch course outlines and assignments at the beginning of the semester. To many students, this issue does not work to their favor since it encourages idleness. To the contrary, its advantages are more. It is from this that my strategy to strike a balance is derived. To begin with, each student need to create their own calendar from the tutor’s but subdivided in to 3 parts. The first should be a semester-long calendar. This calendar should track every important activity throughout the semester and expected deadline hence planning ahead is enhanced. A weekly calendar should follow. This weekly helps the student note when they are free within the week and make possible arrangements for any ongoing commitment. Lastly, the student should prepare a daily to-do list. In this, prioritization is encouraged. The student should check on what should be completed first with well stipulated and strict deadline. Implementation of this strategy can go a long way in enhancing proper use of time. one evident advantage is the fact that the students understands the need for slotting time to socialize and have fun, and knows when exactly to do that. For the reason, the automate result is a stroke balance between education and social

Dissolving the Ruhr Authority Adenauer contributed towards gaining rights of the Ruhr's authority and was able to acquire freedom to the FRG thereby alleviating all provisions and statutes against European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). According to Schwarz (1995) "The economy of Western Europe had to be regarded as an interdependent system and could not prosper without the Ruhr. In his view it followed from this that a forced suppression of the German economy was in no-one's interests. Drawing on his experiences stretching back over almost three decades, he maintained that the establishment of a bloc-free Germany would be unwise, too. He pleaded for a reconstruction of the German economy; this meant that the Ruhr should be internationalised and linked closely with the Western European economic system". (Schwarz, 1995, p. 40) So, the foremost achievement of Adenauer was the independence of Ruhr authority, which without him

Narrative Feeling Essay Example for Free

Narrative Feeling Essay 1. Identify three quotes from the dialogue that show how Bryce progressed in ethically identifying his emotions. The first quote from the dialogue shows how Bryce progressed in ethically identifying his emotions is â€Å"After a year of applying, interviewing, jumping through all the hoops, I finally realized nothing I did mattered. I just couldn’t take another rejection. The bottom line is, no one wants me.† The second quote that shows how Bryce progressed in ethically identifying his emotions is â€Å"I don’t know. I think they might leave me. We’ve run through our savings. We’re behind on the mortgage. I’m going to lose everything. I feel bad, but I can’t do anything about it.† The third quote that shows how Bryce progressed in ethically identifying his emotions is â€Å"Really? What did you do? I mean, I know you moved away.† See more: how to start a narrative essay 2. Identify and explain, using concepts from the text, at least one example of an obstacle to communicating emotions in the situation.  One example of an obstacle to communicating emotions in the situation is self-protection. Bryce stated that he hasn’t want to talk to anyone in a while which can be an indication that he may not want to express his feelings, in fear of others having information that could affect how they perceive or act towards him. (Wood, 178) 3. Identify and explain at least two examples of irrational beliefs that Bryce holds. Two examples of irrational beliefs that Bryce holds from the dialogue would be when he states â€Å"The bottom line is, no one wants me.† And â€Å"I feel bad, but I can’t do anything about it.† I feel that these beliefs are irrational because they are not true, though Bryce believes they are. He feels that no one wants him, but the case may be that someone else may have been a better fit for the position instead of him. This does not mean that he was not just as qualified as the next applicant. Bryce stated that he stopped looking for jobs about 6 months ago, but if he would have remained dedicated, he may have run into a job by then. He stated that he can’t do anything about this but truthfully, he could have still continued to search for jobs instead of sitting back and doing nothing. 4. Explain, using concepts from the text, how Bryce could use surface acting and deep acting to better align his emotions and behavior with the needs of his job search. Even though Bryce feels that finding employment is hopeless, his body language and facial  expressions will definitely show that. Bryce needs to learn how to effectively control his outward appearance because it will benefit his job search. A positive attitude always helps gain desired results. Showing an outward appearance of drive and determination to gain employment will be more beneficial than his defeated attitude. Bryce could also align his emotions and behavior with the needs of his job search by controlling his feelings of hopelessness and defeat. He should learn that by possessing these feelings, he is already lessening his chances to produce the desired results that he is looking for. 5. Based on the textbook’s guidelines for communicating emotions effectively (p.182– 187), identify and explain at least three ethical strategies Bryce could use to improve his interpersonal communication in this situation. One strategy that Bryce could use to improve his interpersonal communication in this situation is identifying his emotions. The text states that â€Å"recognizing the existence of both feelings allows you to tune in to yourself and to communicate accurately to others what you are experiencing.† (Wood, 182) Bryce needs to separate his feelings of hopelessness and the fact that he feels that no one wants him. Another strategy that he can use is choosing whether or how to express emotions. Bryce seems to be very erratic when it comes to his feelings toward finding a job. Once he can actually determine where his frustration lies and not let it consume and discourage him, he can then decide to or not to communicate his emotions in order to keep them private. Lastly, he can also use the strategy of monitoring self-talk. This would be very helpful to Bryce because he can talk himself into having a more positive outlook regarding his job search, He won’t feel so low when he is turned down for a job opportunity because he will have coached himself to keep searching and continue his drive. Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee

Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown is a fully documented version of the obliteration of the Indian Americans in the late 1800s culminating at the Wounded Knee Battle. Brown brings to light torture and atrocity story not well known in the American history. The way in which American Indians was decimatedis best understoodby the authorarguments thatThe Whites told only one side. Only his own best deeds the only worst deeds of the Indians, has the white man told (Brown 316). When I commenced reading this book I assumed I had a good handle on what happen to the Native American Indians. The Indians roams their ancestral lands peacefully and basically, with great admiration for the nation and its citizens. Then the white man approaches, stumbling all over himself with the aim of reaching the gold fields in California or the rich the high plains farmland. The Indians are no more than an annoyance, a bothersome barrier that should be relocated to one side if patent destiny is to be attained. Lands are and reservations stolen, the land that white man has already plundered or passed up, are assigned. Those who do not go to the set reservation are hunted down cruelly. Sometimes even those who agree to come in are pounced on (Sand Creek for instance) and massacres happens with cover-ups that make many people not believe the story (Silvestro and Silvestro 144). Once on the reservation Indiana are often forced to move once again, farther away from their ancient homeland, after some gold is discovered or convenient highway to West Coast under plans. On the reservation they are fed leftovers of the white man by corrupt, unscrupulous supervisors, and discouraging words depict death. You might as well expect the rivers to run backward as that any man who was born a free man should be contented when penned up and denied liberty to go where he pleases (Brown 108).This history book is striking to look at, yet sorrowing to read. The photographsand illustrations are excellent, and were printed on good quality paper. It has a feeland look of a coffee table volume, while having the rich content of history text. The Indian are massacred at Washita, Sand Creek, and Wounded Knee with petite or no public tumult, but when he reacts by killing a couple of settlers, imitating the white Americans through mutilation, the public atrocity is deep and the military is ordered a blank kill plaid (Hobson 34). With every chapter the shocking treatment is recurrent, leaving the reader with only two alternatives of responses vomiting or weeping. It is exceedingly hard to read the Browns book, not for the reason that the sentences long or the language is awkward, (which is not the incident) but for the reason that each sentence, page, and chapter will surely leave every but the most cold-hearted with a reflective sense of woe, shame, and disgust. Brown deals with the entire major and the minor actions that entailed almost all Native American communities and the scenario remains always the same. The work of non-fiction, tries to tell the story about American West from the viewpoint of the indigenous populace, The American Indian. This in itself sorts Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee a significant literature work as it is one of limited books supportive of the Indian foundation. This is done by the use of council first-hand, autobiographies, and records accounts. Each of the novels19th chapters deals with oneparticular tribe, battle, or historical occurrence. Brown goes into explicit and deepdetail throughout, as demonstrated by the books almost 500 pages. However, as some may complain the book is text-book-like or boring, I think the opposite is really true. In general, very little is acknowledged about this terrible massacre and the book is a wonderful and fascinating learning tool. Brown has transcribed many books about the lives of the American Indian, comprisingof Killdeer Mountain and Creek Marys Blood (Sharp 96). The Indians did not bother or cause uproar, as Crow Feather articulates: We never go to the Great Fathers country and bother him about anything. It is his people who come to our country and bother us, do many bad things and teach our people to be bad (Brown 275). Here Brown strongly captures attention to the point that the Native Americans endured a lot, and did not request for anything more than being let live in peace in the ir own land as they were before egotistical white settlers came. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee opens a door into the past. It forces individuals to understand the dark side of the American history and the extents white men went to achievethe Christian attaindestiny. With the exemption of a few civilians and soldiers, the white man is depicted as an indiscriminate sadist and murderer. They slayed Native Americans irrespective of age or sex, frequentlyscalping and mutilating their bodies, and even getting as far as chopping off their genitalia. These bizarre and shocking exposures give the reader a terrifyingvision of the birth of a great nation. This is perhaps the most extensively influential book about American history published in the twentieth century. Dee Brown used to be a University of Illinois Librarian, and had written fifteen books about American history before he wrote Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. His characteristic professionalism is very apparent in the excellent research and documentation which went into this multifaceted history of American West realized from an Indian viewpoint. The most captivating thing, however, is the plight of the central character, Dr. Eastman. He is sent to a school of white population, and forced to leave his tribe, traditions, and beliefs, he became the essence of what an ideal Indian could developto at least in the perspective of white man (Hobson 271). He also intrigues by his stern struggle, not only ethnically, but personally too. Walking a line between different cultures, and never accepted well in either of them; Dr. Eastman became a spokesperson for the Native Americans, while still attempting to maintain his personality as a tribe person. The whole situation where the tribe viewed him as a collaborator, an Indian, turned to white man that would not fit within his culture. His story is strongly portrayed in this book and provides a great vision into some of the extreme crimes ever committed on the Native Americans. Dee Brown, in this colossal undertaking, relates the closing ages of an ignoble period of American history. Straddling the period between 1850 and 1890, this book relates the doom of the many native communities who were massacred for the sake of the greed white Americans for land and other resources. Brown says (pg. 211) that only men who utilized the land were entitled to it, a statement that clearly identifies America at that time from the beginning of the book unfolding the ejection of the Navajos community from their own homes to reserved places, and then later permitted to go back to less fertile spots, Wounded Knee, the occasion that marked the final battle of the Native Americans. Throughout the book, the expressions of the past can apparently be heard. Wherever possible, Brown uses contemporary versions to tell the story, only filling in the holes as a storyteller on a documentary. The feeling of intimacy accompanied by the numerous maps and photos brings society that has disappeared to life, and I would argue, left the domain a poorer place. Although this was perhaps never the purpose, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is more of an indictment of white Americans and an attitude that continues to this day, since it is past events history. The attitudes that permitted the U.S government and army to annihilate a whole nation can still be seen in the American approach towards international affairs and may aid to explain why many outside the United Sates are so opposed to the American policy in nations such as Afghanistan and Iraq. I would envisage that this book may be extremely uncomfortable for Americans, telling, since it does of the massacre carried out just for settlers could have bigger land and everything within it. However itchy though, I deliberate that reading this book should be obligatory for everyone who wants to gain an understanding on the America of only over one century ago. Reading it may also provide some understanding into why there are problems. There are plenty reservations where once proud societies who believed that land belonged to no body but was merely borrowed, are forced to live. Dee Browns Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a brilliantly written and intuitive piece of American literature. Dee Brown asks us to confront their past, which may make us uncomfortable. But there remain two sides to every tale, and Brown shows the reader the side that they rarely see. By forcing the reader to think about these concerns, Dee Brown accomplished the objective he set out to attain when he began writing his eye opening account on the American West (Sharp 411). Further, the book offers the history that ultimately leads to the Wounded Knee slaughter tragedy. The pain, misunderstanding, suffering, fight for personal starvation, and, as well as cultural self all lead to an astonishing story of not just the saga of the establishing of American West, with the downfall of Native American nations however, it is also an close look into the nationsfailure in inter-relations and sacrifices of culture that fallouts when nations divide. Brown does an excellent job to point out the hypocrisy of the settlers many times throughout his book, stating that the white men of the United Statesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ talked so much of peace but rarely seemed to practice it (Brown 8). This is a persuasive history, and one that have to be not only forgotten, but it ought to be studied, and eventually understood. I believe its power, and worth still carries importance nowadays and the history value presented applies to not only nations at large, but to individuals that forms the nations particularly when these nations find themselves in conflicts with each other.

Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) :: essays research papers

The organization I have chosen for this essay is CSIS ( Canadian Security Intelligence Service ). CSIS closely resembles The Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) or British Security Intelligence Service. I have chosen this organization because I have great interest in becoming an employee of CSIS in the future. This essay will provide brief history of CSIS, the responsibilities of CSIS for Canada, and the application process for an entry – level position. These will be further discussed in greater detail as the essay goes on. CSIS was created by the passage of an Act of Parliament ( Bill C-9 ) on June 21, 1984. The service began its formal existence on July 16, 1984. Prior to June 21, 1984, security intelligence was collected by the Security service of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Two different Commissions chaired by the Justice Mackenzie in 1969 and Justice McDonald in 1977 recommended that the security intelligence functions be separated from the RCMP and that a civilian service be formed to carry out those functions. Both commissions recognized that the problem of balancing the need for accurate and effective security intelligence with the need to respect democratic rights and freedoms could not be adequately resolved as long as security intelligence responsibilities remained part of the Federal police force. In 1970, following the report of the Mackenzie Commission, John Starnes, a Foreign Service officer with the Department of External Affairs, became the first civilian Director General of the RCMP Security Service. Although the RCMP became more flexible problem arose due to the different natures of security intelligence work and police work. In August 1981, the feral government announced that a security intelligence service, separate from the RCMP would be established. The first legislation to establish the security intelligence service, Bill C-157, â€Å" an Act to Establish the Canadian Security Intelligence Service ( CSIS )† was introduced in Parliament in May 1983. It passed by both Houses of parliament and given Royal Assent in June 1984. CSIS began its formal existence on July 16, 1984 with Ted Finn as Director. In addition to creating a civilian security intelligence service, the Cat also created SIRC, to review the activities of CSIS. CSIS is a government agency dedicated to protecting the national security interests of Canada and safeguarding its citizens. The main objective of the service is to investigate and report on threats to the security of Canada.

A Separate Peace :: Free Essay Writer

A Separate Peace   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Obstacles after obstacles came in the path to success. In the novel A Separate Peace, John Knowles revealed a very strong idea through one of his characters. Through Gene it was revealed that weak individual who once was weak morally and mentally can become a strong and a more matured person. John Knowles revealed this idea through Gene’s perspective; symbolism; and also Gene’s speech/action.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Gene had proved many things through only his perspective. He had intriguing thoughts, which gave many idea’s about Gene post personality and his surroundings. â€Å"Looking back now across fifteen years, I could see with great clarity the fear I had lived in†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Pg.2) This quote thus revealed that Gene was quite a weak individual. For if someone who lives in fear is considered morally weak, scared of the society and shy, insecure and who had a lack of confidence. Which Gene was in the beginning of the novel. â€Å"Yes he had practically saved my life. He had also practically lost it for me.† (Pg. 25) This quote exposed that Gene was in the middle of his mental metamorphosis. Gene in the first part of his quote seemed strong, but when he twisted it to make Finny, his best friend look bad, he still seemed to be morally weak, but in a more stronger moral state then before. â€Å" Now I knew that there never was and never could have been any rivalry between us. I was not of the same quality as he.† (Pg. 51) This quote showed a completely changed Gene. Gene became stronger by realizing the reality, he now had realized that there was no use in competing with anyone. Although this was recognizing Gene’s change only perspective wise.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There were many deep meanings that Gene had from significant things from his past. The two main significant symbolic things for Gene were the tree and the stairs. â€Å"Although they were old stairs, the worn moons in the middle of each step were not very deep. The marble must be unusually hard†¦.† (Pg. 3) This quote proved that the marble represented some of his so called â€Å"friend†, in other words referred to Brinker and Leper. For they had used him and indirectly killed Finny, who was Gene’s real friend. For the Marble looked rich and good, but it’s real texture was cold and hard, just like Brinker and Leper were, as Gene had found out later on in the story.

Microwavable frozen foods

United States and China had been seemingly a stable economic partner since years ago. Trades were often made between these two big countries hence China became the third economic partner of US. And also became second in terms of exports to the US. On the other hand, exports were also given to Chin. It is simply stated that China and US were mutual in economic relations. In the Case of Microwavable Frozen Foods that we wish to export to China. The goal is to have great trade by having great facilitation on the trade that will be occurring between China and US on the exports to be presented by China(Richelson). There is really the need of understanding the wellness of good trade facilitation as well as the neediness of the good for the target company.A good must be considered really consumable for the consumers of the company.   A good trade facilitation would lead efficiently to the smoothly flow of the transactions as well as simplifying the process, documentation and information to be held during the transactions. Smooth flow of transaction may lead to lessen burdens especially with the cost of business trade and great security and control. Being an international trade, during the transaction there must be some factors to be considered the contract to be made regarding the border and custom issues and transport services. When dealing with international trade, awareness to the business transaction made is a great factor to have high performance in the business world(My Own Business). In the export of microwavable frozen foods, we should consider the type of product that we wish to present to our trade partner by ensuring a highly rated product to achieve mutual pleasures between your partner and the exporter yourself.Contracts should be also one of the necessary materials in doing international transactions even only locally. A contract can ensure that your goods will be at good or it is naturally needed for the development on good partnership. Indeed, contacts are capable for the mistakes that would possibly do during the transaction and trade. With contracts, trade partner were both attain benefits especially during fault and blunder for the transactions. With contacts, both parties are well secured for the deal and companies as well be secured. When dealing only with the company for the transaction to be made, there is also the need to understand and to be aware of the country’s laws for any exports to be received by the company within the country. It is the responsibility as a exporter to perceive all necessary transaction procedures to be made. The exportation must be guided according to the Border and Customs ruling of China where our business partner was located(McIntyre). This method of knowing more about borders and custom rulings will improve the efficiency of the trade as well as run smoothly due to conformity to the rule. There was also sometimes that before making the transaction, there is a need for the presence of any business related offices as well as security offices for the importing country to manage the trade simultaneously and secured.Regarding with this, the paper document as well as the good must be presented first to the clients together with their business lawyers for the preparation of good del and agreement to be held in the near future. With the help of each lawyers of both parties, deal and agreements will be efficiently be made and completed. Prior to the aid of lawyers, the risks of ignorance to the deal and agreement will be merely obliterated.Financing the exportations of goods was truly beneficial as well as other requirements such as contract and agreement. Any financing requirement must be fulfilled eagerly for the progress for the progress of the transactions(Co.). Because making a great transaction is relevant for the payment of your exported Goods. Cost of good also should be considered, because the target company was not only making agreement with one exporting company.A ttractive and competitive pricing of Goods should be recognized as looking for the business as a competitive one. Because they were not only dealing with us, we must consider other rivals pricing or cost of good to be able to cope up with the competition in the world of business most likely in the world of exportations. As a response to other goods prices, we can offer credits and extend their payment dues and this will enable our transaction that would take place in place of other exporters.Regarding with the international trade there still one important thing that should be discussed; this is the American Depository receipt or ADR. This is simply known to be non other than share of stocks acquired by non US companies for their trade with US Company(Kamlet and Regnery). This is an efficient way of handling trade of non US Company with us because they can acquire share of stocks that can be invested when any trade was made between our company and theirs. This is a great help to them if they wishes to stock trade in any US stock exchange.Being an exporting company, these were truly considerable facts and details that we be looking upon when dealing with our clients especially in abroad. Having knowledge with these things would remarkably a great sense of competition that would further be accomplished. Paying attention to the client’s yearning and yearning would be capable for us to manifest a good business performance alongside with other big companies surrounding us. Preparing for these activities such as trading would not be as tough if we consider all the things of factors of a good and competitive business and also it will help lessen any risks for any transactions to be made.Work Cited:Co., Unz &. â€Å"Financing Export Transactions.† 1999.Kamlet, Art, and George Regnery. â€Å"Stocks – American Depositary Receipts.†Ã‚   (2002).McIntyre, Doug. â€Å"Investing in China.†Ã‚   (2007).My Own Business, Inc. â€Å"Internationa l Trade.† 2007.Richelson, Jeffrey T. â€Å"China and the United States: From Hostility to Engagement, 1960-1998 †Ã‚   (1999).
